India, land of diversities, does not charm just because of its beautiful landscapes, serene beaches, gigantic mountains, and eternal spirituality but along with all such qualities it offers the spectacular differences of culture and society in each region. In this post, we are presenting the festivals each of which display the character of the region and demonstrate the cultural diversity from the other region. We would write festivals for each month in a separate post, so we would start with the Month of February.
Yesterday we posted 5 cultural festivals in the month of February, and we promised to bring you more such festival held in February. Here we are with 4 such festivals which are treat to people who submerged themselves into the symphony of enigmatic environment and illustrious culture. It would be best to start with the best i.e. Khajuraho Dance Festival.
Khajuraho Dance Festival, Madhya Pradesh (Feb 20 – Feb 26)
The Temples of Khajuraho strike a perfect balance between architecture and sculpture also offer Khajuraho dance festival, organised by the Madhya Pradesh Kala Parishad. This week long festival has already become legendary with its outlandish classical dance performances presented in a dreamlike setting of splendidly illuminated temples.
Some of the best artists and performers that have marked themselves in their fields come from the various states of India to participate in the festival. Live performances of classical dances like Kathak, Kuchipudi, Odissi, Bharatnatyam, Manipuri and Mohniattam are the major attractions of this dance festival.
Ragasthan Festival, Jaisalmer, Rajasthan (Feb 12 – Feb 15)
The picturesque beauty of the unceasingly carved sand dunes of Rajasthan is ready to entice you as Jaisalmer plays host to Ragasthan – a three-day cultural festival featuring music, film, art, photography and scores of outdoor activities! The festival aims at promoting local and international tourism by showcasing music, art and culture in Rajasthan region.
With a multitude of genres Ragasthan has a note to suit every ear and one will get to hear music from around the world under the open sky. 3 open stages, namely Morio (Main Stage), Ammara (Electronic Stage), and Olun (World Music Stage) will hold musical performances in the middle of the desert. A sneak-preview into the events’ line up announced so far is as under:
Morio Stage: A colourful stage that will host the key acts of Pop, Rock, and Alternative genres by over 20 artists.
Ammara Stage: Ammara Stage will host Electronic performances of Techno, Trance, DNB, Club, and many more genres, by over 22 artists.
Olun Stage: It will host music from across the world, comprising genres like Reggae, Afro, Sufi, African Drums, Jugalbandhis, Folk, Raga, and Country music amongst others. Over 24 artists will be performing on this stage.
Ujalo place to screen films in open air, hathai place where artist try hands on sculpting, drawing, colouring, graffiti, sand art, pottery, or photography, and Dhani the choice to create your own little village are other such attraction of place.
Konark Dance Festival, Odisha ( Feb 19 – Feb 23 )
Konark is best known for the majestic Sun temple which dominates the town. Situated 35 km away from Puri in the state of Orissa, the Sun temple is a World Heritage Monument. The Konark festival is held in the ground beautiful Sun Temple in the month of February.
This festival has established its own unique identity in the sense that eminent artistes of national and international repute participate and perform Odissi, Kathak, Bharatnatyam, Kuchipudi, Manipuri, Mohiniattam and other classical, folk & tribal dances/music of our country on the enchanting stage of the Natyashala in the monumental Sun Temple, Konark. The stage and the atmosphere is magnified by the spiritual and aesthetic flavor, in the natural ambience of casuarinas and cashew trees.

Pariyanampetta Pooram Kattukulam Kerala ( Feb 19 )
The Pooram festival is marked by the traditional folk and classical musical performances like the Tholpavakoothu, Kalamezhuthupattu, Pootham, Thira, Karivela, Kaalavela, Kuthiravela, Kathakali, Chakyarkoothu.
The last day of the festival sees a Ceremonial procession of 21 elephants. These grandly caparisoned elephants are made to march through the streets while thousands of people gather to watch them and to seek blessings from them since the elephant is hailed as holy in Kerala.
The elephant and traditional musical performances are inherent parts of religious festivals in South India. The fairs and festivals in Kerala are more so.
These are the festivals which depicts the diversity of India and suggest you what each of these festivals can offer. In most of these places, you would not only enchanted with the culture and tradition with the place but also with the neighbouring places too.
