Day 6 of Our Assam–Meghalaya Trip: Umiam Lake, Kamakhya Temple Visit Experience & Journey Closure
Day 6 was the final day of our Assam–Meghalaya trip. Unlike the earlier days, this was not about covering many places—it was about wrapping up the journey calmly, keeping health and time in mind.
Planning the Night Before
On the night of Day 5, we loosely planned Day 6 around:
- Visiting Kamakhya Temple
- Possibly visiting Umananda Temple
We were aware that time would be limited, so nothing was fixed in advance.
A Slow Start to the Day
The day started late because my wife was not feeling well and had a severe headache. After breakfast, we began the day around 9:30 AM, accepting that we would do only what felt manageable.
Umiam Lake: Short, Unhurried Stop
Since Umiam Lake was nearby, we decided to stop there briefly.
We spent about one hour walking around the lake area. The space is large, and even an hour feels short, but given our schedule, we chose not to stay longer and moved on without rushing.

Drive to Guwahati & Riverfront Stop
After leaving Umiam Lake, we drove towards Guwahati and reached the city around 12:45 PM.
We spent about 30 minutes at the Umananda riverfront. The riverfront itself was not pleasant due to uncleanliness, but this is where boats depart for Umananda Temple. We did not take the boat ride and left after understanding how the process works.
Kamakhya Temple Visit Experience
From the riverfront, we headed to Kamakhya Temple, which is approximately 12 km away. We reached the temple around 1:45 PM. Although we had spoken to a Pandit earlier, he asked us to proceed on our own. Surprisingly, the entire Kamakhya Temple visit took only about 1.5 hours, and we exited around 3:15 PM. The darshan was smooth and well-managed, unlike the long waiting times we had expected.
We will share a separate, detailed blog focused only on the Kamakhya Temple visit.
Reaching the Airport & Ending the Trip
After leaving the temple, we headed straight to Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport and reached around 4:00 PM. The airport was extremely crowded, and queues were long, but we eventually completed all formalities and boarded our flight.
Final Takeaway from the Trip
This marked the end of our six-day Assam–Meghalaya journey.
The biggest lesson from the trip was clear:
- Meghalaya requires time, physical effort, and flexible planning.
- Trying to rush through places only adds fatigue.
- Adjusting plans based on health and energy made the journey far more manageable.
This trip, documented through Lazy Yatra, reflects real travel—honest decisions, limited energy, and realistic pacing.
