Orchid Lake Resort Umiam Review (Loghut Room Experience)
Among all the stays during our Assam–Meghalaya journey, Orchid Lake Resort was the best resort experience we had. We stayed in the highest category room – the Loghut Room, and this review is based on a one-night family stay.
Room Experience – Loghut Room
The Loghut Room was extremely spacious, roughly 300–400 sq. ft., making it the largest and most comfortable room we stayed in during the trip.
- Large king-size bed
- Extra mattress was better than standard size (approx. 4×6 ft instead of 3×6)
- Room was clean, well-maintained, and comfortable
- Overall room ambience was pleasant
Being a government-run property, there were a few limitations:
- The washroom had a mild odor issue
Despite this, room comfort remained excellent.
Location & Ambience
The resort is located right on the edge of Umiam Lake, which naturally enhances the experience.
- Calm surroundings
- Open lake views
- Peaceful night stay
The location alone adds significant value to the stay.
Staff & Service
Staff behavior was cooperative and responsive.
One specific experience stood out:
My wife had a severe headache in the morning and needed to take medication. We requested something light to eat, and the staff served cookies immediately without charging anything extra.
Service was prompt and courteous throughout our stay.
Food & Breakfast Experience
Breakfast was served as an unlimited buffet, which was the best breakfast experience of our trip.
Items included:
- Aloo paratha
- Aloo cutlet
- Bread, butter, jam
- Tea, coffee, milk
- A few additional items
While the variety was not very large, the buffet was unlimited, and food quality was good.
The restaurant is lake-facing, which made breakfast even more enjoyable.
Price & Value for Money
The Loghut Room is on the expensive side, but considering:
- Room size
- Location
- Comfort
- Breakfast quality
…it still felt like good value for money.
We paid around ₹5,000, which felt reasonable for the overall experience.

Final Verdict
Orchid Lake Resort is an excellent choice if:
- You want a spacious, comfortable resort stay
- You value lake views and peaceful surroundings
- You are okay with minor limitations of a government property
For us, the Loghut Room stay at Orchid Lake Resort felt luxurious, comfortable, and was easily the best resort stay of the entire trip.
