The legend behind Sanwariya Seth

The temple’s origin story is told the same way across generations, and it’s worth knowing before you go.

Local accounts say that in 1840, a milkman (some versions call him a shepherd) named Bholaram Gurjar had a dream. In it, he saw three divine idols buried underground near Chapar village, on the border of Bhadsoda and Bagund. When villagers dug at the spot the next day, they found exactly what he had described — three black stone idols of Lord Krishna.

The idols were then distributed to three different locations:

One remained at Chapar, the site where it was found (now called Prakatya Sthal)
One was installed at Bhadsoda village
One was carried to Mandfiya village, where the main Sawariya Seth Dham temple stands today

Village head Rodulal Jain and local residents built the first small structure at Mandfiya to house the idol, with proper rituals performed at the time. By train: Chittorgarh Junction is the nearest major railway station, roughly 33–40 km from the temple, and is well connected to cities like Jaipur, Delhi, Ratlam, Indore, Bhopal, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Kolkata, Agra, and Kota. From the station, local taxis, shared jeeps, and Rajasthan Roadways buses run to Mandfiya.

By air: Maharana Pratap Airport in Udaipur is the nearest airport, so if you’re flying in specifically for this trip, Udaipur is your natural base.

For a comfortable trip, leave Udaipur around 8–9 AM and drive towards Sanwariya Seth Temple in Mandfiya.
