On day of this Spiti Valley tour, we start our epic Himalayan road trip today and start driving to Sangla. With the Baspa river magically weaving itself through the forested slopes, this exquisite 95-kilometer stretch of the Sangla Valley is a sight to behold. Known predominantly for its agriculture, almost every house in Sangla will have cultivations of apples, pears, walnuts, apricots or potatoes.Dinner & overnight stay at Kalpa.

Kalpa → Tabo

Kalpa to Tabo - Scenic Journey through Nako and Desert-Mountains

Today we drive towards Tabo. The landscape changes from green-mountains to desert-mountains. We continue our journey through Kinnaur and enter the Hindustan-Tibet Highway - often called the world’s most adventurous road. We drive via Puh, which is the last fuel station on this road before Kaza. After a fuel refill, we drive towards Nako, a village situated at 3600 m, passing by the Khab Sangam (confluence of Spiti and Sutlej rivers), and visit the Nako lake. We can have lunch at Nako and later visit the Gue village and see the 500 year old Mummy at the Monastery there. Finally we head to Tabo for the night.

Tabo → Kaza

Tabo to Kaza - Visit Historic Dhankar Monastery and Scenic Pin Valley

Our first destination on day will be the Dhankar (sometimes spelled as Dankhar or Dhangkar) monastery. It is a 900-year-old monastery built on a valley spur. The word literally translates to Fort (Kar) built on a mountain (Dhang). A 23km long drive on NH505 will take us to a point from where we take a right turn and continue the drive on a serpentine road connecting road (Sichling-Dhankhar Gompa). The Dhankar monastery offers vantage views of the valley and the confluence of the Pin and Spiti Rivers. After spending some time at the monastery, we descend down to reach NH505, take a left turn, and continue driving on the highway. At Attargo, we drive over the Attargo bridge and start our road journey into the Pin valley. Instagrammable places in Pin valley Kungri monastery Sagnam village Mud village (the last village of the Pin valley). Pin river terraces. By the evening, we head back to Attargo and reach Kaza — the administrative center of Spiti valley. Dinner and overnight stay at a hotel in Kaza.

Local Sightseeing Kaza - Discover Langza, Hikkim & Komik

Wake up in the magnificent Pin valley and after breakfast head towards Kaza and then further to explore the nearby villages of Langza (The fossil village), Komic, Hikkim & Key monastery. Each of these villages are famous for special reasons. Hikkim claim to have the worlds highest post office. Komic is the worlds highest village to be connected with a motorable road. While Langza is known as the Fossil village of India due to the abundance of marine fossils found here. After sightseeing, head towards Kaza, will cover key monastery and chicham bridge. for the evening stay.

Kaza → Losar

Kaza to Losar - Explore Ki Monastery, Kibber & Chicham Bridge

After a relaxed breakfast, we head to the world famous Ki Monastery and spend some time exploring the monastery. Then we will move farther down the valley to the picturesque village of Kibber and the Chicham Bridge - Asia’s highest bridge. We shall then head to Losar village by afternoon. Overnight at a homestay in Losar.

Losar to Kullu - Scenic Drive via Kunzum Pass, Chandratal Lake & Atal Tunnel

Today, we commence our journey back home and drive on the Kaza – Manali road, one of the most adventurous roads. We visit the Kunzum Mata mandir at the Kunzum Pass and then we take a last stop at another Spitian wonder – Chandratal Lake. The mystical and beautiful Lake, which translates to “Moon Lake”, located at a height of 14,000 feet. We will cross the Chacha-Chachi dhaba at Batal, and see some of the most scenic views on the route to Manali. We cross the Atal Tunnel before arriving in Manali by Late noon . drive towards kullu and further to your stay .. Perched atop a hill, the complex houses a beautiful monastery with a magnificent 12-meter-high gilded copper statue of the Sakyamuni Buddha, making it a significant spiritual site.
  • Thiksey Monastery: A short drive of about 5-7 km (approx. 10-15 minutes) from Shey will bring you to the impressive Thiksey Monastery. Often called ‘Mini Potala’ due to its resemblance to Lhasa’s Potala Palace, this large gompa belongs to the Gelug (Yellow Hat) sect of Tibetan Buddhism. It is famous for its assembly hall and the Maitreya Temple, which houses a colossal 15-meter-high statue of Maitreya Buddha.

En route, you may also visit:

  • Ban Ganga – the sacred stream where devotees take a purifying dip before starting the trek
  • Ardhkuwari Temple – a significant stop where Mata Vaishno Devi is believed to have meditated for nine months
