Bonnie Guest House Shillong Review – Honest Review After a One-Night Stay

Bonnie Guest House Shillong Review – Honest Review After a One-Night Stay

We stayed at Bonnie Guest House on Day 2 of our Assam–Meghalaya trip and reached the property around 8:00 PM. This review reflects a one-night family stay, focusing on comfort, practicality, and value for money.

First Impression & Staff

From the moment we entered, the guesthouse felt warm and welcoming.

  • Staff was polite, helpful, and approachable
  • Even when busy, they were responsive and supportive
  • Overall behaviour felt genuine, not transactional

This was one of the strongest aspects of our stay.

Building Layout & Accessibility (Important)

Bonnie Guest House does not have a lift.

Layout:

  • Ground floor: Restaurant
  • First floor: Management / reception
  • Rooms are on 2nd, 3rd, and possibly 4th floors
  • Total rooms are limited

If you:

  • Have knee issues
  • Have difficulty climbing stairs
  • Are travelling with elderly members

👉 This guesthouse is not suitable.

That said, during checkout, staff helped carry our luggage downstairs, which reduced the inconvenience.

Room Experience

Rooms were well done and comfortable, with a slight premium feel compared to our previous stay.

  • Clean and well-maintained
  • Mountain-facing room with a nice view of Shillong
  • Washroom was very clean and nicely built

Minor issues:

  • Small hole in the bedsheet (informed staff immediately)
  • Washroom handle had a minor issue but was usable

None of these affected our stay in a major way.

Food & Breakfast Experience

Restaurant Type

  • Serves both vegetarian and non-vegetarian food
  • If you are a strict pure vegetarian, this may not work for you

This is not unique to this guesthouse — it’s a general challenge in Shillong.

Breakfast (Weak Point)

Breakfast options were extremely limited:

  • Either 1 aloo paratha, or
  • Puri-sabji, or
  • Bread-jam

No flexibility, no additional items.
Even after requesting, the portions were not adjusted.

This was the biggest drawback of the stay.

Location

  • Located in a prime area of Shillong
  • Easy access to main roads and city movement
  • Room view added to the experience

Location-wise, there were no complaints.

Ratings (Based on Our Stay)

  • Room Quality: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ / 5
  • Staff & Hospitality: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ / 5
  • Cleanliness: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ / 5
  • Breakfast: ⭐⭐/ 5
  • Facilities (no lift, limited breakfast): ⭐⭐⭐ / 5
  • Value for Money: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ / 5

Overall Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ / 5

Final Verdict

Bonnie Guest House is a good choice if:

  • You’re comfortable climbing stairs
  • You value warm staff and clean rooms
  • You want a centrally located stay in Shillong

Not ideal if:

  • You need a lift
  • You expect a generous breakfast
  • You eat only at pure vegetarian kitchens

For the price we paid, it delivered strong value for money, with rooms and staff being the highlights and breakfast being the main area of improvement.
