Amber Fort, the hilltop icon

Amber Fort sits on a ridge above Maota Lake, about 11 km from the city center. Raja Man Singh I built it in 1592, and it later grew into a sprawling complex of courtyards, halls, and the famous mirror-covered Sheesh Mahal.

The fort opens daily from 8:00 AM to 5:30 PM, and an evening light-and-sound show runs most nights. Entry fees have been revised for 2026, so check the current rate at the counter before you go.

Hawa Mahal, the palace of winds

Hawa Mahal is Jaipur’s most photographed building. Its pink sandstone facade has 953 small windows, built so royal women could watch street life below without being seen themselves.

The five-story structure looks like a honeycomb from the street, but it’s actually quite thin, more screen than palace. Early morning light works best for photos, since the sun hits the facade directly.

City Palace, Jaipur’s royal heart

The City Palace complex sits at the center of the old walled city and still houses part of the former royal family. Courtyards, museums, and armory collections fill the grounds, alongside the Chandra Mahal, which is partly open to visitors.

Give yourself at least 90 minutes here. The Peacock Gate and the Diwan-i-Khas, with its giant silver urns, are the highlights most people remember.

Jantar Mantar, a working observatory

Right next to City Palace stands Jantar Mantar, a collection of 19 stone astronomical instruments built between 1728 and 1734 by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II. It houses the world’s largest stone sundial and remains accurate enough to tell time within a couple of seconds.

Govind Dev Ji Temple, Krishna’s home in the city

This temple, inside the City Palace gardens, is one of the most visited in Jaipur. It’s dedicated to Lord Krishna, and the idol is believed to have traveled from Vrindavan generations ago.

Aarti timings draw large crowds, especially in the evening. If you want a quieter darshan, go right after the morning aarti instead of the peak evening slot.

Nahargarh sits on the Aravalli hills above the city and gives one of the best sunset views in Jaipur. The fort connects to Jaigarh Fort by a walled passage and was built as a defensive retreat rather than a residence.

Go up an hour before sunset, grab a spot on the terrace café(There are cover charges which are adjusted in your bill), and watch the Pink City turn gold. It’s a short but steep climb or drive from the city center.

Moti Dungri Ganesh Temple, the hilltop shrine

Moti Dungri is a small hill in the heart of Jaipur, crowned by a Scottish-style castle-like palace and surrounded by the historic Moti Dungri Ganesh Temple at its base. The temple is dedicated to Lord Ganesha and is one of Jaipur’s most popular religious sites.

Wednesdays are especially busy, as the day is considered highly auspicious for worshipping Lord Ganesha. Devotees from Jaipur and nearby areas visit the temple in large numbers to offer prayers and seek blessings.

The temple itself is relatively simple in design, but its location at the foot of the hill, with the distinctive palace above it, creates a memorable setting. Birla temple is Just adjacent to Moti Doongri temple, which in itself is quite famous temple.

Albert Hall Museum, Rajasthan’s oldest museum

Albert Hall sits inside Ram Niwas Garden and is Rajasthan’s oldest museum, opened in the 1880s in Indo-Saracenic style. Inside, you’ll find miniature paintings, metal work, and an Egyptian mummy that’s become something of a local legend.

The building lights up in the evening, and the garden around it is a good spot to slow down after a day of sightseeing.

Birla Mandir, the white marble temple

Birla Mandir stands out for its clean white marble against Jaipur’s usual pink sandstone. It’s dedicated to Lord Vishnu and Goddess Lakshmi, and the carvings inside mix stories from different faiths, which is unusual for a Hindu temple.

Evening visits are worth the trip. Floodlights make the marble glow, and the hilltop location gives a decent view of the city too.

Patrika Gate, the colorful new landmark

Patrika Gate is the newest entry on this list, and one of the most Instagrammed. Its nine arches are painted with folk art, motifs, and bright colors representing different aspects of Rajasthani culture.

It’s free to visit and sits close to Jawahar Circle, so it pairs well with an evening walk if you’re staying nearby.

Best time to visit and how to plan your trip

October to March is the most comfortable stretch, with cooler mornings for fort visits and clear evenings for sunset spots like Nahargarh. Summers get harsh, often crossing 40°C, so early starts matter more than usual if you travel between April and June.

Two full days cover the main sights on this list at a relaxed pace. Three days give you room for Samode Palace or a day trip toward Pushkar.
