Day 1

Meet and Greet at Guwahati, Head to Cherrapunji

Your exciting journey begins with a warm welcome at Guwahati airport or railway station. Meet our representative and embark on a picturesque drive to Cherrapunji, renowned as one of the wettest places on Earth. The distance from Guwahati to Cherrapunji is approximately 150 kilometers, and the scenic journey will take around 4.5 to 5 hours, winding through Meghalaya's lush hills.

 

En route, immerse yourself in the natural beauty with these delightful stops:

  • Umiam Lake (Barapani Lake) – A vast, serene reservoir offering breathtaking views, often called the "Scotland of the East" due to its tranquil beauty. It's a perfect spot for a quick photo break.

Upon reaching Cherrapunji in the afternoon, prepare to be mesmerized by its dramatic landscapes and powerful waterfalls. After a brief check-in at your hotel, the afternoon is dedicated to exploring this natural wonder.

  • Nohkalikai Falls: Start your morning at this magnificent waterfall, India's tallest plunge waterfall. Marvel at the sheer power and beauty of the water cascading into a deep green pool below.
  • Seven Sisters Falls (Nohsngithiang Falls): Next, visit the iconic Seven Sisters Falls, a spectacular array of seven distinct streams plunging off a high limestone cliff, particularly stunning during and after the monsoon.
  • Eco Park: Located nearby, the Eco Park offers panoramic views of the Seven Sisters Falls, the surrounding hills, and distant plains of Bangladesh. It’s a great spot for photography and enjoying the fresh air.
  • Mawsmai Cave: After lunch, venture into the enchanting Mawsmai Cave. This well-lit limestone cave system offers an exciting opportunity to explore unique rock formations and experience the underground world.

Double Decker Bridge and Rainbow Waterfall from Cherrapunji

Your adventurous day begins in Cherrapunji. Kickstart your morning with an early breakfast before heading towards Tyrna Village, the gateway to some of Meghalaya's most breathtaking natural wonders. Tyrna Village is approximately 15-20 km from Cherrapunji town, a scenic drive that will take around 30-45 minutes.

 

Upon reaching Tyrna, prepare for a memorable trek. The journey to the Double Decker Living Root Bridge is an exhilarating experience, involving descent of thousands of steps and navigating forest trails. This challenging trek is approximately 3-4 km one way from Tyrna and can take 1.5 to 2 hours to reach, depending on your pace.

Once you arrive at the famed Double Decker Living Root Bridge, take your time to explore this marvel of bioengineering:

  • Double Decker Living Root Bridge (Nongriat): Witness this extraordinary bridge, formed over centuries by guiding the roots of rubber fig trees across a river. It's a testament to the ingenuity of the Khasi people. Enjoy the serene surroundings, the sound of the flowing river, and the lush, verdant canopy. It’s an ideal spot for photography and soaking in nature's tranquility.

 

For those with ample energy and time, consider extending your trek further to the mesmerizing Rainbow Falls. This additional trek from the Double Decker Bridge takes another 1 to 1.5 hours one way. The path is often steep and slippery but rewards you with unparalleled views.

Encounter the ethereal beauty of Rainbow Falls:

  • Rainbow Falls: A spectacular waterfall known for the vivid rainbows that often appear in its mist, especially on sunny days. The natural pool at its base is crystal clear and inviting.
  • Spend time admiring the powerful cascade and the pristine environment before beginning your return journey.

 

The return trek from Rainbow Falls and Double Decker Bridge back to Tyrna Village is strenuous, involving an uphill climb that can take 3-4 hours. After reaching Tyrna, drive back to Cherrapunji, concluding your immersive day amidst the natural grandeur of Meghalaya.

Return to Hometown from Guwahati

Begin your day with a nourishing breakfast before checking out from your comfortable accommodation in Cherrapunji. Ensure all your belongings are packed and ready for your onward journey. It's advisable to complete any remaining Cherrapunji sights you wished to see before departing.

 

Set out on a scenic drive from Cherrapunji towards Guwahati. This journey covers approximately 150 kilometers and is expected to take around 4 to 5 hours, depending on traffic and road conditions.

 

En route, consider visiting the following attraction:

  • Umiam Lake (Barapani Lake) – A vast and picturesque reservoir offering stunning views and a tranquil break from the drive. It’s an ideal spot for a quick photo opportunity or a refreshing stop.

Upon arrival in Guwahati, proceed towards the city. Depending on your flight schedule, you might have time for a brief visit to one of the city's significant landmarks before heading to the airport.

Should time permit before your flight, you could consider:

  • Kamakhya Temple – A revered Shakti Peeth situated atop Nilachal Hills, offering spiritual solace and panoramic views of the city. (Allow at least 1-2 hours for a quick visit, factoring in potential queues).

 

Finally, make your way to Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport (GAU) for your return flight to your hometown, carrying cherished memories of Meghalaya's natural beauty.

  • Flight Tickets/Train Ticket until unless not specified above.
  • Camera Charges, and Tip at different sites and restaurants.

  • City Tour Tickets are included only in Andaman. In any other Indian states, it is not included.

Land Package Cancellation Charges

  • More than 30 Days before Travel - 15% of the total Package cost. Hotel /Cruise /Ferry cancellations/ retentions would be additional to the service charges of Cancellation.
  • More than 15 Days and Less than 30 days Before Travel – 50% of the Package cost.
  • Less than 15 Days / No Show – 100% of the Package cost.
  • Travel Dates Between Dec 10 - Jan 20 – 100% of the Package cost (No cancellation entertained at this time)
