Detailed Itinerary

Day 1

Pick up from Guwahati Airport and Head to Kaziranga

Upon your arrival at Guwahati Airport (GAU), our representative will greet you warmly, ready to whisk you away to the magnificent wilderness of Kaziranga National Park. This journey from Guwahati Airport to Kaziranga covers approximately 220 kilometers and is expected to take around 5 hours, depending on road conditions and traffic.

 

The drive itself is a picturesque experience, taking you through the heart of Assam's rural landscapes, past verdant paddy fields, and traditional Assamese villages. While the primary focus of the day is the transfer, enjoy the changing scenery outside your window.

 

As you approach Kaziranga, the landscape transforms, hinting at the wildlife wonders that await. Upon arrival, you will check into your pre-booked resort or lodge nestled near the National Park.

After checking in, the rest of your day in Kaziranga is designed for relaxation and preparation:

Kaziranga Sightseeings

Begin your day with an exhilarating wildlife adventure. All activities for the day are focused within the various ranges of Kaziranga National Park, ensuring a comprehensive wildlife experience.

 

Your day's exploration of Kaziranga National Park:

Early Morning Elephant Safari (Kohora Range): Embark on a serene elephant-back safari through the tall grasslands of the Kohora (Central) Range. This unique experience offers an unhindered view of the park's inhabitants, often allowing close encounters with rhinos, wild buffaloes, and various deer species as the morning mist lifts.

 

Afternoon Jeep Safari (Western or Eastern Range): In the afternoon, set out for an extensive jeep safari. Kaziranga to Shillong

Today, embark on a scenic journey from the wilderness of Kaziranga National Park to the charming hill station of Shillong. After an early breakfast, check out from your hotel in Kaziranga. Ensure you've completed any last-minute souvenir shopping or quick local sights before setting off on your drive.

 

Shillong is approximately 250-280 kilometers from Kaziranga, and the drive typically takes around 6 to 7 hours, depending on road conditions and stops.

 

En route, you will visit:

  • Umiam Lake (Barapani Lake) – A vast, picturesque artificial reservoir surrounded by lush green hills, perfect for a refreshing stop and photo opportunities. You can enjoy boating here if time permits.

 

Upon arrival in Shillong, check into your hotel and take some time to refresh. In the evening, you will explore Police Bazaar – The bustling heart of Shillong, ideal for an evening stroll, local shopping for handicrafts and souvenirs, and experiencing the city's vibrant atmosphere.

Shillong Local Sightseeings

After breakfast, proceed to explore Shillong, the “Scotland of the East,” covering all major city attractions.

 

Sightseeing in Shillong:

  • Laitlum Canyon - A breathtaking, deep gorge located about 25–30 km from Shillong. Known for its panoramic, 360-degree views, the site is a popular trekking, photography, and sunrise/sunset destination, often featuring dramatic mist and deep valleys.
  • Ward’s Lake – A peaceful lake ideal for short walks and paddle boating.
  • Lady Hydari Park – A Japanese-style park with gardens and a small zoo.
  • Cathedral of Mary Help of Christians – A beautiful church known for its stained-glass interiors.

Excursion to Jowai

Embark on a picturesque single-day excursion from Shillong to the serene district of Jowai, known for its natural beauty and cultural significance. Your day begins with a morning departure from Shillong.

 

The drive to Jowai is approximately 65 km and takes around 2 hours, offering scenic views of the Meghalayan landscape.

En route to Jowai, discover these captivating spots:

  • Umiam Lake (Barapani Lake) – A vast, serene reservoir offering breathtaking views and opportunities for photography, a perfect first stop.
  • Tyrshi Falls – A magnificent tiered waterfall located just outside Jowai, where you can descend steps to a beautiful viewing platform.

 

Upon arrival in Jowai, delve into the heart of its natural wonders. You’ll spend the late morning and early afternoon exploring the best of Jowai.

In Jowai, visit the following attractions:

  • Krang Suri Falls – One of Meghalaya's most enchanting waterfalls, famous for its crystal-clear turquoise waters and lush surroundings, perfect for a refreshing dip.
  • Thadlaskein Lake – A historic artificial lake with a charming legend, offering peaceful boating opportunities and stunning views.

 

After enjoying the natural splendor and perhaps a local lunch, begin your journey back to Shillong in the late afternoon. The return drive, also approximately 65 km and 2 hours, allows for reflection on the day's beauty.

Mawlynnong and Dawki River - Cherrapunji Stay

Your single-day adventure begins with an early morning departure from Shillong. After checking out from your hotel in Shillong, ensure any final glimpses of the city's charm are completed before embarking on this journey.

 

Set off towards Mawlynnong, famously known as Asia's Cleanest Village. The scenic drive from Shillong to Mawlynnong spans approximately 90-100 km and takes around 2.5 to 3 hours, offering picturesque views of the rolling Khasi Hills.

 

Mawlynnong Exploration

Upon arrival, immerse yourself in the unique cultural and natural beauty of this remarkable village:

  • Living Root Bridge: Marvel at this natural architectural wonder, skillfully crafted by the indigenous Khasi people.
  • Balancing Rock: Discover this intriguing geological formation, where a large boulder rests precariously on a smaller stone.

Upon arrival in Cherrapunji, check into your hotel. The remainder of the day is at leisure, allowing you to relax and soak in the tranquil atmosphere of this cloud-kissed region.

Day 7

Double Decker Bridge and Rainbow Waterfall from Cherrapunji

Your adventurous day begins in Cherrapunji. Kickstart your morning with an early breakfast before heading towards Tyrna Village, the gateway to some of Meghalaya's most breathtaking natural wonders. Tyrna Village is approximately 15-20 km from Cherrapunji town, a scenic drive that will take around 30-45 minutes.

 

Upon reaching Tyrna, prepare for a memorable trek. The journey to the Double Decker Living Root Bridge is an exhilarating experience, involving descent of thousands of steps and navigating forest trails. This challenging trek is approximately 3-4 km one way from Tyrna and can take 1.5 to 2 hours to reach, depending on your pace.

Once you arrive at the famed Double Decker Living Root Bridge, take your time to explore this marvel of bioengineering:

  • Double Decker Living Root Bridge (Nongriat): Witness this extraordinary bridge, formed over centuries by guiding the roots of rubber fig trees across a river. It's a testament to the ingenuity of the Khasi people. Enjoy the serene surroundings, the sound of the flowing river, and the lush, verdant canopy. It’s an ideal spot for photography and soaking in nature's tranquility.

 

For those with ample energy and time, consider extending your trek further to the mesmerizing Rainbow Falls. This additional trek from the Double Decker Bridge takes another 1 to 1.5 hours one way. The path is often steep and slippery but rewards you with unparalleled views.

Encounter the ethereal beauty of Rainbow Falls:

  • Rainbow Falls: A spectacular waterfall known for the vivid rainbows that often appear in its mist, especially on sunny days. The natural pool at its base is crystal clear and inviting.
  • Spend time admiring the powerful cascade and the pristine environment before beginning your return journey.

 

The return trek from Rainbow Falls and Double Decker Bridge back to Tyrna Village is strenuous, involving an uphill climb that can take 3-4 hours. After reaching Tyrna, drive back to Cherrapunji, concluding your immersive day amidst the natural grandeur of Meghalaya.

Cherrapunjii to Guwahati

Begin your day by ensuring any remaining sights in Cherrapunji, such as the Nohkalikai Falls or Mawsmai Cave, are completed before checking out from your hotel. The journey covers approximately 150 kilometers and takes around 4.5 to 5.5 hours, depending on traffic, especially while crossing Shillong.

Return to Your Hometown with unlimited memories

Your memorable journey concludes today as you prepare to return to your hometown. After a delightful stay, begin your day with a relaxed breakfast at your hotel in Guwahati. Following this, complete your hotel checkout formalities, ensuring you have gathered all your belongings and cherished souvenirs.

 

If any of the sights are pending you can cover them. Most important attractions of Guwahati are the followings:

  • Kamakhya Devi Temple (Typically Need 3-4 hours time even with VIP tickets)
  • Umananda Island Temple (At most 2 hours are required)

 

Depending on your flight schedule, you might have a brief window for one last, quick experience in Guwahati. Consider a final visit to a local market for last-minute purchases or simply enjoy a quiet moment reflecting on your trip before heading to the airport.

 

Proceed to Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport (GAU) in Guwahati for your flight home. The airport is approximately 20-25 km from the city center, and the drive typically takes around 45 minutes to 1 hour, depending on traffic conditions. Please ensure you arrive well in advance of your scheduled departure time to allow for smooth check-in and security procedures.

  • Less than 15 Days / No Show – 100% of the Package cost.
