Upon setting off from Guwahati, you'll soon find yourself ascending into the verdant hills of Meghalaya. (Note: If starting from a hotel in Guwahati, please complete your checkout procedures and any remaining city sights before commencing your journey to Shillong).

 

En route, be sure to visit the following attraction:

  • Umiam Lake (Barapani Lake) – A sprawling reservoir offering breathtaking views, perfect for a short photo stop and to stretch your legs. It's often compared to the Lochs of Scotland.

Shillong to Jowai with Phe Phe Falls

The drive from Shillong to Jowai covers approximately 65 kilometers and typically takes around 1.5 to 2 hours, offering picturesque views of the undulating hills and lush landscapes of Meghalaya.

 

En route, you will visit the following spectacular attraction:

  • Phe Phe Falls (Leshka Falls) – Discover this magnificent multi-tiered waterfall, often referred to as paradise falls, cascading into a stunning turquoise pool. Located amidst verdant forests, it's an ideal spot for photography and soaking in nature's tranquility before reaching Jowai.

 

After a refreshing stop at Phe Phe Falls, continue your drive to Jowai. Upon arrival, check into your accommodation if pre-arranged, or embark directly on exploring the town. Jowai, the district headquarters of West Jaintia Hills, offers a glimpse into the rich culture and traditions of the Jaintia tribe.

Jowai To Shillong

fter breakfast, check out from your hotel in Jowai and drive towards Shnongpdeng (approx. 55 km | 1.5 hrs), where you can enjoy the crystal-clear Umngot River and optional activities like boating, kayaking, snorkeling, and cliff jumping. Continue to Dawki to visit the famous Dawki Bridge and admire the scenic river views, followed by a visit to the India–Bangladesh Friendship Gate to witness the international border. Later, proceed to Mawlynnong, renowned as Asia's Cleanest Village, where you can explore the charming village, Bamboo Sky Walk, and the nearby Riwai Living Root Bridge. In the evening, drive to Shillong (approx. 80 km | 2.5–3 hrs), check in to your hotel, and enjoy an overnight stay in Shillong.
