Shimla → Chitkul

Pick up from Shimla Bus Stand Or Railway Station, Later Head to Chitkul

Begin your day with an early morning pick-up from Shimla Bus Stand or Railway Station. You will then embark on a scenic journey towards Chitkul, the last inhabited village near the Indo-Tibetan border. The drive from Shimla to Chitkul is approximately 230 km and will take around 9-10 hours, depending on road conditions and en route stops.

 

As you leave Shimla, prepare for a picturesque drive through the Kinnaur Valley. There are no specific major sightseeing attractions directly en route that require a dedicated stop, but the journey itself offers breathtaking views of the Himalayas, deep gorges, and the Baspa River.

 

The entire day is dedicated to reaching Chitkul. Upon arrival in Chitkul, you will check into your accommodation. The remaining part of the day is at your leisure to explore the immediate surroundings of this serene village. You can take a gentle stroll to soak in the tranquility and admire the unique architecture of the local houses. Enjoy the crisp mountain air and the stunning backdrop of snow-capped peaks. Consider visiting the local temple, dedicated to Mathi, the local deity. As evening approaches, relax and enjoy the peaceful ambiance of Chitkul, preparing for the days ahead.

Chitkul → Nako

Chitkul to Nako - Scenic Drive via Kalpa with Cultural Exploration

After breakfast we will drive you to Nako (7-8 hrs.). Here you will check in to the hotel or in the luxury tented accommodation. Later on after lunch we will take you for a walk in the village with your guide and visit the buddhist monastery related to guru Padmasambhava (a great buddhist scholar, whose teachings spread to Tibet from India), we will also visit Nako Lake, the residence of His Holiness The Dalai Lama ji. Later on next morning you may wish to walk to the nearby peaks with your guide and enjoy a wonderful view of the whole Nako village with the Himalayas as the backdrop of the village.

Nako → Kaza

Nako to Kaza - Scenic Drive through Gue, Tabo, and Dhankar Monastery

After breakfast, check out from your hotel in Nako. Before departing, ensure that any remaining sightseeing in Nako is completed, as no sights will be revisited. Begin your journey deeper into the spectacular landscapes of Spiti Valley, heading towards Kaza, the headquarters of Spiti.

The distance between Nako and Kaza is approximately 170 km, and it would take around 7 to 9 hours to reach by road, depending on road and weather conditions.

 

During the journey, cross Sumdo, which marks the end of the Kinnaur district and the beginning of the Lahaul & Spiti district.

En-route Sightseeing:

  • Gue Village – Famous for the naturally preserved 500-year-old mummy of a Buddhist monk.
  • Tabo Monastery – One of the oldest Buddhist monasteries in the Himalayas, often referred to as the “Ajanta of the Himalayas.”

 

Continue your drive towards Kaza. Upon arrival, check in to your hotel and relax for the evening.

Today's Itinerary:

  • Morning: Begin your day in Kaza after a hearty breakfast.
  • En route to Langza: Drive approximately 15 km to Langza, a journey taking about 30 minutes.
  • Langza Village: Explore the picturesque village, famous for its ancient monastery and the chance to find fossils.
  • En route to Hikkim: Continue your journey to Hikkim, a short drive of about 10 km, taking roughly 20 minutes.
  • Hikkim Village: Visit the world's highest post office and send a postcard to a loved one.
  • En route to Komik: Proceed to Komik, another 10 km drive, approximately 20 minutes.
  • Komik Village: Discover Komik, one of the highest motorable villages in the world, and visit the vibrant Komik Monastery.
  • Return to Kaza: Begin your scenic drive back to Kaza, a journey of about 25 km, taking around 40 minutes.
  • Evening: Arrive back in Kaza, reflecting on the incredible sights and experiences of the day.

Kaza → Chandar Tal

Kaza to Chandratal - Scenic Journey to Chandra Tal with Chicham Bridge Visit

Today after breakfast head towards the famous Chandratal Lake and visit the Chicham Bridge on the way just 5 kms from Kibber. The Chicham Bridge is one of the highest (Altitude) bridges in Asia and is situated 5 kms ahead of Kibber village. Chandra Tal lake is situated at a distance of 85-90 km from Kaza and is said to be the source of the Chandra river. On the way, you’ll cross the famous Kunzum Pass. Spend some time near the Kunzum Mata Temple situated on the top of the pass and head towards Chandratal Lake. Enjoy some quality time near the lake. Camping is not allowed near the lake so the overnight stay would be 2 kms below the lake at our Campsite.

Chandar Tal → Manali

Chandratal to Manali - Scenic Return via Kunzum pass, Atal Tunnel & Solang Valley

Today's adventure takes you from the serene shores of Chandratal Lake to the vibrant town of Manali, traversing breathtaking mountain passes and engineering marvels.

 

Begin your day with an early morning checkout from your accommodation near Chandratal Lake. Ensure all desired sights in the Chandratal vicinity have been explored before commencing your journey.

 

The drive from Chandratal to Manali is approximately 150 km and will take around 6-7 hours, depending on road conditions and stops.

En route, you will pass through:

  • Kunzum Pass: Experience the panoramic views from this high mountain pass, a gateway to the Spiti Valley.
  • Atal Tunnel: Traverse this engineering marvel, significantly reducing travel time and offering a unique underground experience.
  • Solang Valley: Famous for its adventure sports like paragliding and zorbing, offering spectacular mountain scenery.

Upon reaching Manali, check into your hotel. Enjoy your evening in Manali, perhaps exploring the Mall Road for local crafts and cuisine. (Vehicle is not available)
