Once you've checked into your hotel, the most crucial activity for your first day in Leh is acclimatization. Leh is situated at a high altitude (around 11,500 feet or 3,500 meters), and it is vital to rest and allow your body to adjust to the reduced oxygen levels. We highly recommend spending the majority of your day relaxing at the hotel, avoiding strenuous activities, and staying well-hydrated.

Afternoon & Evening Leisure in Leh:

In the late afternoon or early evening, once you feel adequately rested, you may opt for a very gentle stroll to explore the immediate surroundings of your hotel.

Sham Valley is approximately 35 km away from Leh, and the entire round trip covering all major attractions will take around 4-5 hours, including travel and sightseeing time.

En route to the heart of Sham Valley, you will visit the following attractions:

• Hall of Fame: A museum commemorating the brave soldiers of the Indian Army, showcasing their history, achievements, and the rich culture of Ladakh. (Closed on Mondays)

Your scenic adventure begins with an early morning checkout from your hotel in Leh. Please ensure all your belongings are packed. Set out on a picturesque drive from Leh to Nubra Valley, a remarkable landscape nestled between the Himalayas. This journey, approximately 120-130 km, will take around 4-5 hours, offering breathtaking vistas as you ascend towards the famed Khardung La.

The drive to Nubra Valley is a spectacle in itself, divided into two distinct parts by the iconic Khardung La pass:

• Leh to Khardung La: Approximately 39 km, an ascent of about 1.5 - 2 hours. This part of the journey takes you through winding mountain roads with stunning views of the Indus Valley.
• Khardung La to Nubra Valley: Approximately 80-90 km, a descent of about 2.5 - 3 hours. After crossing the pass, the landscape transforms into dramatic valleys and eventually, the fertile plains of Nubra.

After a thrilling drive, you will reach the verdant Nubra Valley. Here, immerse yourself in the unique culture and natural beauty of the region.

• Diskit Monastery: Explore the largest and oldest Buddhist monastery in Nubra Valley, dating back to the 14th century. Perched atop a hill, it offers magnificent views of the valley and houses a 32-meter-tall statue of Maitreya Buddha.

Activities and Sightseeing in Nubra Valley (Vehicle will be provided only if the followings were not covered yesterday):

• Hunder Sand Dunes Exploration: Head towards Hunder village, renowned for its dramatic white sand dunes. Here, you'll encounter a surreal landscape where the desert meets towering mountains. Spend time walking along the dunes, soaking in the unique environment.
• Double-Humped Camel Ride: Experience the iconic Bactrian camel ride amidst the Hunder sand dunes. These two-humped camels are unique to this region and offer a memorable way to traverse the sandy expanse.
• Diskit Monastery: Ascend to the magnificent Diskit Monastery, the oldest and largest monastery in Nubra Valley. Your journey begins from Nubra Valley (e.g., Hunder/Diskit) in the early morning. Set out for the captivating drive towards Pangong Lake. The distance from Nubra Valley to Pangong Lake via the Shyok Valley route is approximately 150-160 km, and the drive typically takes around 5-6 hours, offering a unique and less-traveled path.

Upon arrival at the magnificent Pangong Tso (Lake), prepare to be awestruck by its ever-changing shades of blue. Spend ample time at this iconic location, capturing photographs, walking along its shores, and simply soaking in the serene beauty. Remember to stay hydrated and acclimatize to the high altitude.

After experiencing the magic of Pangong Lake, commence your return journey towards Leh. The drive from Pangong Lake to Leh is approximately 220-230 km and will take around 6-7 hours, traversing the formidable Chang La Pass.

En route from Pangong Lake to Leh, the journey includes:

• Chang La Pass: Conquer the world's third-highest motorable pass at 17,590 ft (5,360 m). Stop briefly to admire the prayer flags and enjoy panoramic views (weather permitting).
• Druk White Lotus School (Rancho's School): Pass by this unique architectural marvel, famed for its sustainable design and connection to the movie '3 Idiots'.
• Thiksey Monastery (External View): Catch a glimpse of this impressive monastery, perched majestically on a hill, as you drive towards Leh.

By late evening, you will arrive in Leh. After a long yet rewarding day of driving and sightseeing, check into your accommodation. The rest of the evening is free for leisure, allowing you to relax and unwind.

• If Normal route/Shyok Route is closed due to Snow Melting or Rain or Administrative reasons, in such a case INR 4000/- for SUV & 7000/- for Traveler would be Extra for Warila Route.

Your day begins with a drive towards the scenic Indus Valley. The first stop is Shey Palace, located approximately 15 km from Leh, taking about 25-30 minutes to reach.

• Shey Palace: Once the summer capital of Ladakh, Shey Palace houses a giant copper-gold gilded statue of Shakyamuni Buddha. Explore the palace ruins and enjoy panoramic views of the Indus Valley.

From Shey, proceed a short distance to the magnificent Thiksey Monastery, approximately 5 km away, a drive of about 10 minutes.

• Thiksey Monastery: This impressive monastery is often called 'Mini Potala' due to its resemblance to the Potala Palace in Lhasa. It is known for its 12-story complex, housing many stupas, statues, thangkas, and a magnificent 49-foot Maitreya Buddha statue.

The next stop is the famous Druk White Lotus School (also known as the 3 Idiots School), located around 5 km from Thiksey Monastery, an approximate 10-minute drive.
