Once you've checked into your hotel, the most crucial activity for your first day in Leh is acclimatization. Leh is situated at a high altitude (around 11,500 feet or 3,500 meters), and it is vital to rest and allow your body to adjust to the reduced oxygen levels. We highly recommend spending the majority of your day relaxing at the hotel, avoiding strenuous activities, and staying well-hydrated.

The drive to Nubra Valley is a spectacle in itself, divided into two distinct parts by the iconic Khardung La pass:

• Leh to Khardung La: Approximately 39 km, an ascent of about 1.5 - 2 hours. This part of the journey takes you through winding mountain roads with stunning views of the Indus Valley.
• Khardung La to Nubra Valley: Approximately 80-90 km, a descent of about 2.5 - 3 hours. After crossing the pass, the landscape transforms into dramatic valleys and eventually, the fertile plains of Nubra.

Upon arrival in Sumur, immerse yourself in the tranquil spiritual atmosphere of the village.

Sightseeing in Sumur:

The drive back, approximately 50-60 km, will take around 1.5 to 2 hours, allowing you to reflect on the day's adventures and enjoy the changing light over the stunning Nubra landscape. The rest of the evening is free for leisure, allowing you to relax after a day of exploration.

Begin your day with a hearty breakfast at your accommodation near Pangong Lake. Take a moment to capture any last photographs of the majestic lake before embarking on your scenic journey to Nubra Valley.

The drive from Pangong to Nubra Valley via the picturesque Shyok Valley is approximately 150-170 km and typically takes around 5-7 hours, depending on road conditions and the number of photo stops you make along the way. This route offers a stark contrast of landscapes, from the serene blue of Pangong to the rugged moonscapes and verdant patches of the Shyok River basin.

Upon arrival in Nubra Valley, check into your pre-booked hotel or guesthouse. After refreshing yourself, set out to explore the unique attractions of this high-altitude desert.

Later in the day, explore the following attractions in Nubra Valley:

• Diskit Monastery: Perched on a hilltop, this is the oldest and largest monastery in Nubra Valley, offering panoramic views of the valley and featuring a magnificent 106-foot tall statue of Maitreya Buddha.
