Spiti Valley is located in the northern Indian state of Himachal Pradesh, in the Himalayan region. It's a cold desert mountain valley situated in the Lahaul and Spiti district, and lies between Tibet and India, giving it a unique blend of Indo-Tibetan culture and landscapes.
How can we reach to Spiti Valley?
- From Manali via the Kunzum Pass (open only in summer)
- From Shimla via Narkanda Sangla valley (more accessible year-round, but longer)
It is known for its stark beauty, ancient monasteries (like Key, Tabo, and Dhankar), and rugged terrain, attracting trekkers, bikers, and cultural travelers.
The best time to visit Spiti Valley depends on the kind of experience you're looking for. Here's a breakdown:
Best Time: May to October
Weather is Pleasant with clear skies and snow is minimal during this time. Both the routes ie via Manali (Kunzum Pass) and Shimla are open in this time. This time is best for the Road trips, sightseeing, photography, trekking, and visiting high-altitude villages
People visit in Winters also from November to March.
Weather is Extremely cold and temperatures drop to -20°C or lower in this season. Only the Shimla route is open; Manali route is closed due to snow. This time is best for Snow-covered landscapes, chance to see a snow leopard (rare), or you want to enjoy the solitude. There are Challenges though, as in the Harsh conditions you would have only the basic accommodation, and in addition there is the risk of road closures.
You can never miss Spring i.e. between April to Early May
At this time Snow begins melting, but Manali-Kaza road usually still closed. So this is closed for people who really wants to travel to Manali but for other it is open and it is Good for Quieter travel.
