Upon your arrival at Leh Kushok Bakula Rimpochee Airport, prepare for an unparalleled experience even before you land. After clearing immigration and baggage collection, meet your representative who will facilitate your transfer to your pre-booked hotel in Leh.

 

Once you've checked into your hotel, the most crucial activity for your first day in Leh is acclimatization. Leh is situated at a high altitude (around 11,500 feet or 3,500 meters), and it is vital to rest and allow your body to adjust to the reduced oxygen levels. We highly recommend spending the majority of your day relaxing at the hotel, avoiding strenuous activities, and staying well-hydrated.

 

Afternoon & Evening Leisure in Leh:

In the late afternoon or early evening, once you feel adequately rested, you may opt for a very gentle stroll to explore the immediate surroundings of your hotel.

Journey from Leh to Nubra Valley - Scenic Drive via Khardung La with Diskit Monastery Visit

Your scenic adventure begins with an early morning checkout from your hotel in Leh. Please ensure all your belongings are packed. Set out on a picturesque drive from Leh to Nubra Valley, a remarkable landscape nestled between the Himalayas. This journey, approximately 120-130 km, will take around 4-5 hours, offering breathtaking vistas as you ascend towards the famed Khardung La.

 

The drive to Nubra Valley is a spectacle in itself, divided into two distinct parts by the iconic Khardung La pass:

  • Leh to Khardung La: Approximately 39 km, an ascent of about 1.5 - 2 hours. This part of the journey takes you through winding mountain roads with stunning views of the Indus Valley.
  • Khardung La to Nubra Valley: Approximately 80-90 km, a descent of about 2.5 - 3 hours. After crossing the pass, the landscape transforms into dramatic valleys and eventually, the fertile plains of Nubra.

 

After a thrilling drive, you will reach the verdant Nubra Valley. Here, immerse yourself in the unique culture and natural beauty of the region.

  • Diskit Monastery: Explore the largest and oldest Buddhist monastery in Nubra Valley, dating back to the 14th century. Perched atop a hill, it offers magnificent views of the valley and houses a 32-meter-tall statue of Maitreya Buddha.
  • Hunder Sand Dunes: Experience the unique cold desert landscape of Hunder, where you can witness the majestic sand dunes set against the backdrop of rugged mountains.

Upon arrival in Turtuk, you'll be captivated by its unique charm. This village, opened to tourists only in 2010, is known for its apricot orchards and distinctive Balti culture.

 

Once in Turtuk, explore the following fascinating sights:

  • Balti Heritage Home & Museum: Discover traditional Balti artifacts, clothing, and household items, offering insight into the local history and culture.
  • Old Monastery & Mosque: Visit the village's ancient religious sites, showcasing a blend of Buddhist and Islamic architectural styles, reflecting the village's diverse heritage.

Scenic Drive from Nubra Valley to Pangong Lake - Adventure through Shyok Valley

Embark on an exhilarating single-day journey from the captivating Nubra Valley to the mesmerizing Pangong Lake, traversing the dramatic landscapes of the Shyok Valley.

 

After checking out from your accommodation in Nubra Valley, set out on this scenic drive. The distance between Nubra Valley (e.g., Diskit/Hunder) and Pangong Lake via the Shyok route is approximately 160 km, and the journey typically takes around 6 to 7 hours, depending on road conditions and photo stops.

 

En route, immerse yourself in the natural beauty and rugged charm of the region, with opportunities to visit the following:

  • Shyok River Valley: Follow the majestic Shyok River as it carves its way through the mountains, offering breathtaking panoramic views and a unique geological spectacle.
  • Agham Village: A small, picturesque village that provides a glimpse into local life and offers serene photo opportunities amidst the mountains.
  • Shyok Village: Another quaint settlement along the route, known for its strategic location and rustic charm.

  • If Normal route/Shyok Route is closed due to Snow Melting or Rain or Administrative reasons, in such a case INR 4000/- for SUV & 7000/- for Traveler would be Extra for Warila Route.

Pangong → Leh

Return from Pangong to Leh - Scenic Drive via Changla Pass with Monument Visits

After enjoying a beautiful sunrise and breakfast by Pangong Lake, complete any final moments at the lake before commencing your scenic return journey to Leh. Your drive begins from Pangong Tso, heading towards the majestic Changla Pass.

 

The journey from Pangong Lake to Changla Pass is approximately 90-100 km and will take around 3-4 hours, traversing through winding mountain roads and quaint Ladakhi villages.

 

Upon reaching Changla Pass, one of the highest motorable passes in the world at an elevation of 17,586 ft (5,360 m), take a short break. Here, you can enjoy a cup of tea at the army cafeteria and soak in the panoramic views of the surrounding Himalayan ranges.

 

From Changla Pass, the descent to Leh is approximately 55-65 km, taking around 2-2.5 hours. This segment of the drive is particularly rich in cultural and historical sites.

En route from Changla Pass to Leh, explore these iconic monasteries and palaces:

  • Chemrey Monastery: A 17th-century monastery belonging to the Drukpa order, known for its high statue of Padmasambhava and rare ancient scriptures.
  • Thiksey Monastery: An impressive monastery perched on a hill, resembling the Potala Palace of Lhasa. It houses a magnificent 15-meter high statue of Maitreya Buddha.

Transfer to Leh Kushok Bakula Rimpochee Airport (IXL) for your flight to Srinagar. Enjoy the spectacular aerial views of the Himalayas as you journey towards the Kashmir Valley. Upon arrival at Sheikh ul-Alam International Airport (SXR) in Srinagar, meet our representative who will assist you with your transfer. The drive from Srinagar Airport to the Dal Lake area is approximately 15-20 km and takes about 30-45 minutes, depending on traffic.

 

After settling in, immerse yourself in the iconic beauty of Dal Lake. Known as the "Jewel in the Crown of Kashmir," Dal Lake offers a unique cultural experience.

 

Site to Visit & Activities to do @ Srinagar include:

  • Shikara Ride: Enjoy a traditional wooden boat ride across the tranquil waters, gliding past floating gardens and houseboats. At an additional cost, if not added

Excursion to Gulmarg

After breakfast at your hotel/houseboat in Srinagar, proceed for a full-day excursion to Gulmarg, one of Kashmir’s most scenic hill stations, often called the “Meadow of Flowers.”
The distance from Srinagar to Gulmarg is approximately 50 km, taking about 2 hours by road through rolling meadows, pine forests, and mountain villages.

 

Gulmarg Sightseeings:

  • Gulmarg Gondola Ride:
  • One of the world’s highest cable cars, operating in two phases. Phase 1 (Kongdori Station – 8,530 ft): Offers panoramic views of the valley and lower slopes. ₹740 per person (to/fro). Phase 2 (Apharwat Peak – 13,780 ft): Reaches close to the Line of Control, often covered in snow year-round. ₹950 per person (to/fro). Combo (Phase 1 + 2): Around ₹1,700 per person. It remains open between 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM (last ride subject to weather).
  • Ticket Booking: Tickets can be booked online in advance through www.jammukashmircablecar.com. It’s advisable to pre-book, especially during weekends or snow season.
  • Golf Course (Seasonal): Asia’s highest green golf course — open from April to November.
  • Snow Activities: Skiing, sledging, and snow scooter rides (charges extra, available in winter months).

 

Important Travel Information (Must Read):

  • Local Taxi Union Restrictions: Private tourist vehicles from Srinagar are not allowed beyond Tangmarg during winter or heavy snowfall. Travellers must hire a local Gulmarg union chained tyred vehicle from Tangmarg to reach Gulmarg town and sightseeing points. ₹1,800–₹3,000 per vehicle (round trip), depending on weather and distance covered.
  • Gandola Parking: Vehicle will be parked at the parking spot and from there we would need to walk around one KM to reach the base point. However vendors would confuse you and incorrectly inform you about the long walk.

 

After sightseeing and leisure time in Gulmarg, drive back to Srinagar in the evening and return to your hotel or houseboat.

Note: All activities in Gulmarg are subject to weather and local union regulations. Gondola tickets are non-refundable once booked. Warm clothing and sturdy footwear are essential even in summer months.

Excursion to Pahalgam

After breakfast, we drive to Pahalgam via Pampore, Avantipura and the village of Bijbehara which remains famous as the bread basket of Kashmir. We switch from the national highway 1A at Khanabal and drive through the second largest city of Anantnag. From here the road turns scenic as we drive parallel on the Lidder river flowing from the opposite direction. In Pahalgam, visit Betaab Valley, Aru Valley and Chandanwari Valley (At your own cost). After sightseeing around the mountain valley for most of the day, Over Night stay in Srinagar.
