Upon your arrival at Leh Kushok Bakula Rimpochee Airport, prepare for an unparalleled experience even before you land. After clearing immigration and baggage collection, meet your representative who will facilitate your transfer to your pre-booked hotel in Leh.

 

Once you've checked into your hotel, the most crucial activity for your first day in Leh is acclimatization. Leh is situated at a high altitude (around 11,500 feet or 3,500 meters), and it is vital to rest and allow your body to adjust to the reduced oxygen levels. We highly recommend spending the majority of your day relaxing at the hotel, avoiding strenuous activities, and staying well-hydrated.

 

Afternoon & Evening Leisure in Leh:

In the late afternoon or early evening, once you feel adequately rested, you may opt for a very gentle stroll to explore the immediate surroundings of your hotel.

Leh → Nubra Valley

Journey from Leh to Nubra Valley - Scenic Drive via Khardung La with Diskit Monastery Visit

Your scenic adventure begins with an early morning checkout from your hotel in Leh. Please ensure all your belongings are packed. Set out on a picturesque drive from Leh to Nubra Valley, a remarkable landscape nestled between the Himalayas. This journey, approximately 120-130 km, will take around 4-5 hours, offering breathtaking vistas as you ascend towards the famed Khardung La.

 

The drive to Nubra Valley is a spectacle in itself, divided into two distinct parts by the iconic Khardung La pass:

  • Leh to Khardung La: Approximately 39 km, an ascent of about 1.5 - 2 hours. This part of the journey takes you through winding mountain roads with stunning views of the Indus Valley.
  • Khardung La to Nubra Valley: Approximately 80-90 km, a descent of about 2.5 - 3 hours. After crossing the pass, the landscape transforms into dramatic valleys and eventually, the fertile plains of Nubra.

 

After a thrilling drive, you will reach the verdant Nubra Valley. Here, immerse yourself in the unique culture and natural beauty of the region.

  • Diskit Monastery: Explore the largest and oldest Buddhist monastery in Nubra Valley, dating back to the 14th century. Perched atop a hill, it offers magnificent views of the valley and houses a 32-meter-tall statue of Maitreya Buddha.

The distance between Nubra Valley (e.g., Diskit/Hunder) and Pangong Lake via the Shyok route is approximately 160 km, and the journey typically takes around 6 to 7 hours, depending on road conditions and photo stops.

  • Shyok River Valley: Follow the majestic Shyok River as it carves its way through the mountains, offering breathtaking panoramic views and a unique geological spectacle.

From Mahe, you will continue your drive towards Leh, covering an additional distance of about 165 km, which takes approximately 4 to 5 hours, depending on road conditions and stops.

 

En route, visit the following attractions:

  • Chumathang Hot Springs: A popular spot where you can observe hot springs bubbling out of the ground, offering a unique geological spectacle and a chance to relax by the warm waters.

  • Magnetic Hill: Experience the optical illusion where vehicles appear to defy gravity and move uphill on their own.
  • Gurudwara Pathar Sahib: A serene Sikh shrine believed to be visited by Guru Nanak Dev.
  • Indus-Zanskar Confluence (Sangam): Witness the spectacular meeting point of the turquoise Indus River and the muddy Zanskar River, a stunning natural phenomenon.

Upon your arrival in Srinagar, check into your hotel. Given the long and scenic journey, the rest of the day will be dedicated to relaxation or a leisurely introduction to the city's charm.

Srinagar → Pahalgam

Head to Pahalgam and Stay

After breakfast, check out from your hotel or houseboat in Srinagar. The distance between Srinagar and Pahalgam is approximately 90 km, taking about 3 hours by road, through saffron fields, apple orchards, and scenic countryside.

 

En Route Sightseeing:

  • Awantipora Ruins: Ancient 9th-century Hindu temple ruins built by King Awantivarman along the Jhelum River.
  • Pampore Saffron Fields: Kashmir’s famous saffron-growing belt (blooming season: October–November).
  • Apple Orchards & Walnut Farms: Enjoy a brief stop to taste or purchase local produce.

 

Upon arrival in Pahalgam—the Valley of Shepherds—check in to your hotel and relax amid the pine-clad mountains and the Lidder River’s soothing sound.

Pahalgam Sightseeings:

  • Betaab Valley: A lush green valley surrounded by snow peaks, named after the Bollywood film Betaab. (Entry ₹100–₹150 per person)
  • Aru Valley: A tranquil meadow about 12 km from town, ideal for photography, horseback rides, and picnics.
  • Chandanwari: Starting point of the Amarnath Yatra and a scenic snow point (accessible seasonally).

Local Taxi Union Rule:
Private vehicles from Srinagar are not allowed to operate local sightseeing within Pahalgam.
Travelers must hire local union cabs from the Pahalgam taxi stand for Aru, Betaab, and Chandanwari circuits.

  • Exact Taxi Union Rates are already displayed on the board of the Taxi Union Stand based on the number of places and vehicle we need.
  • Bisaran Valley: Only reachable by pony ride or trek (approx. 5 km uphill). Pony Ride Cost vary ₹1200 – ₹5,000 per person (round trip; negotiable based on season and route).

We have this day free. We must enjoy the Pahalgam's famous valleys either at relaxing at the resort. Places to visit in Pahalgam are Aaru Valley, Chandanwari, Golf course (Known as Bisaran) and Betab Valley. We can even cover the places which were not covered yesterday post our travel.

With the refreshing memories, Head to Srinagar Airport from Pahalgam

After breakfast, we will head back to Srinagar from Pahalgam based on your flight timings. If you have time in your flights, we can some time at Srinagar, else otherwise Later based on the flight time, we will drop you at the airport.
